Frequently Asked Questions Before Ordering a Handmade or Custom Chandelier

Frequently Asked Questions Before Ordering a Handmade or Custom Chandelier

Since founding Black Sea Lighting, we've helped thousands of homeowners, restaurants, wineries, lodges, and interior designers choose handmade lighting. When you're investing in a handmade chandelier, it's natural to have questions.  These are the questions we answer most often before building a custom chandelier.

Can you make a custom size?

Yes.

Almost every chandelier we build can be customized. Whether you need a larger diameter for a great room, a smaller fixture for a breakfast nook, or different proportions for a unique space, we can usually adjust the dimensions while preserving the original design.

If you're unsure about the right size, simply send us your room dimensions, ceiling height, or dining table measurements, and we'll be happy to recommend the most suitable option.

Can you change the hanging chain length?

Absolutely.

One of the most common requests we receive is to increase the chain length for vaulted ceilings. Many homes have 14–20 ft ceilings, so we often customize the hanging height before shipping. It's much easier to do this during production than after installation

Every home is different, and ceiling heights vary considerably. We can make the chain longer for vaulted ceilings or shorten it for lower ceilings before shipping your chandelier.

If you don't know the exact length, we can help calculate it based on your ceiling height.

Which finish should I choose?

We offer several finishes depending on the design.

Popular choices include:

  • Matte Black
  • Hammered Black
  • Brushed Steel
  • Rustic Rust Finish

Each finish creates a different atmosphere. Matte black suits both rustic and modern interiors, while the  bushed and rust finish complements cabins, lodges, wineries, and Mediterranean-style homes.

Which light bulbs do I need?

Most of our chandeliers use standard E12/E14 sockets depending on your country.

LED bulbs work perfectly and are our recommended choice because they produce very little heat, consume less electricity, and last much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

Warm white LEDs (2700K–3000K) create the cozy atmosphere most customers are looking for.

Our wall lights use standard E12/E14 of E26/E27 sokets

Are your light fixtures dimmable?

Yes.

Our lights are compatible with dimmable bulbs and dimmer switches when the appropriate bulbs and electrical components are used.

Many customers choose dimmable lighting to create different moods for dining, entertaining, or everyday use.

Can the chandelier be installed on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?

In many cases, yes.

Our chandeliers hang from a chain, which naturally allows them to adapt to many sloped ceilings. If your ceiling has an unusual angle, let us know before ordering so we can confirm compatibility.

Can I request design changes?

Often, yes.

Many customers ask us to:

  • change the diameter
  • add or remove lights
  • modify decorative elements
  • adjust hanging height
  • create matching wall sconces or pendant lights

We'll always let you know what's possible while keeping the design balanced and structurally sound.

How heavy are your chandeliers?

Weight depends on the model, size, and materials.

Every product listing includes the approximate weight to help you prepare for installation.

Because our chandeliers are handcrafted from steel and reclaimed wood, they are generally heavier than lightweight factory-made fixtures. This weight reflects the durability and quality of the materials used.

Is installation difficult?

Installation is similar to other ceiling-mounted light fixtures.

Because many of our chandeliers are large and heavy, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician. Having a second person assist with lifting the fixture is also helpful.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes.

We regularly ship our handmade lighting to customers in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and many other countries.

Every chandelier is carefully prepared for international transport to arrive safely.

How do you package such large chandeliers?

Packaging is one of the most important parts of our work.

Large chandeliers are securely packed using heavy-duty boxes, protective padding, and carefully organized components to minimize movement during shipping.

Whenever possible, delicate parts are protected individually to help ensure they arrive in excellent condition.

How long does production take?

Every chandelier is handmade to order.

Production time varies depending on the complexity of the design and our current workload. The estimated production time is always shown on the product page, but in most cases 1-2 weeks.

If you need your chandelier for a specific date, please contact us before ordering, and we'll let you know whether we can meet your deadline.

Can I use your chandeliers outdoors?

Most of our lighting is designed for indoor use.

If you're planning to install a fixture in a covered outdoor area, such as a porch or pavilion, contact us before ordering so we can discuss suitable options.

Why choose a handmade chandelier instead of a factory-made one?

A handmade chandelier isn't simply a source of light—it's a piece created by skilled craftsmen.

Each fixture is individually built using quality materials such as steel, wrought iron, and reclaimed wood. Small details, careful welding, hand-finishing, and attention to craftsmanship give every chandelier its own character.

Our goal isn't to produce thousands of identical fixtures. It's to create lighting that becomes the centerpiece of your home for many years.
